Garth Weme, owner and founder of Advocate Insurance, became licensed for Property and Casualty (homes and autos, buildings and liability) as well as Life and Health, and passed his securities 6 and 63 licensing. Garth moved into his own office in April of 1993 in Bellingham, Wa. as Weme Financial Services. Garth added many life and health carriers as well as mortgage sales to his mix of business.
In October 1994 the Weme family moved to North Idaho and carried on with the servicing of Bellingham clients. In Sandpoint Garth was able to purchase Callahan Insurance in March of 1995. Callahan Insurance was primarily a Grange Insurance agent along with non standard insurance carriers. In the first few years Garth was able to contract with some preferred carriers writing a mix of commercial and preferred personal lines business.
In 1998 the business moved to its current address 506 Alder and renovated a little home into an office building. This building proved to be functional and economical until we destroyed and replaced it with a 500% larger building in 2005. The year 2006 brought tremendous pain to Garth's life as he lost his beloved father to cancer on New Years Eve. The last two months of 2006 were primarily spent in Lynden, Washington helping Garth's mom care for his father.
While he misses the man who helped him build his business, office building, home and family, he rests in the knowledge that he will see him again one day in heaven.
Garth is an avid skier and water skier and is a Soccer Ref in the spring and fall. He enjoys motorcycling and snowmobiling and just completed a frame off restoration on his 64 Chevy shortbox. Next up is his 75 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser.
